About "Sleep, sleep"

Essex - 3.5.24 - 10am

From the outset, Mei and I knew that we wanted to create a piece of music that encapsulated that feeling of going through transitional periods in your life - the feeling of walking through a snow-field with no clear opening in sight. However, the aim of the song is not to make you feel stuck, but hopefully to illuminate the fact that there is always beauty in the snowflakes.Mei did such a beautiful and incredibly skilful job of painting what it’s like to go through transitional periods in your life, and to discover something new within yourself. It is all-in-all for the better and a great act of self-compassion to look at and heal from things you’ve gone through, but you do have to put your guard up sometimes to be able to look at those things.I want to go into a little more detail about the video in particular, as it feels like a real homecoming. I have always had an obsession with washing lines, there's something about sheets hanging in the sun that has always aesthetically appealed to me. It also acts as a shared communal space for the belongings of those who live with others, each piece of cloth revealing something about the owner, so I thought there was no better place to have my passions and family together with me than on the line. The photos on either side of the cover art were taken by my cousin, Libbie Clark. She is an incredibly talented photographer so I couldn't miss an opportunity to showcase her work. These were taken in Bulgaria at a Ski Resort. The photos were not captured with the intention of going into the lyric video, however the merging of environment and family in the frame spoke deeply to me and the song and lead me to use them in the video. I'm so grateful to have her on my first release!Thank you all for being here! I'm so excited to have started this journey.- redbrd
